As the 2024 motorcycle racing season concludes, Josh Herrin stands at the pinnacle of American road racing, having clinched the MotoAmerica Superbike Championship in a dramatic and hard-fought campaign. The former AMA Superbike champion entered the year with a singular goal: to reclaim the title he last held in 2013. After a season filled with highs, challenges, and unforgettable victories, Herrin delivered on his promise, spectacularly securing his second Superbike crown.
The cornerstone of Herrin’s 2024 success was his laser focus and early-season triumphs. His campaign kicked off with a spectacular victory at the prestigious Daytona 200 in March. Riding for Warhorse HSBK Racing Ducati, Herrin took control of the 200-mile endurance race, battling fierce competition in a thrilling back-and-forth contest. His race craft and deep understanding of Daytona’s unique demands shone in the closing laps, where he executed a perfectly timed slipstream pass to edge out his rivals in a nail-biting finish. This victory at the historic venue marked the start of what would become a defining season for Herrin.
Building on his Daytona success, Herrin carried momentum into the MotoAmerica Superbike Championship, consistently finishing on the podium in the opening rounds. His exceptional form continued at Road America, where he claimed a crucial victory after an intense race-long battle. Herrin’s ability to stay composed under pressure became a theme throughout the year, positioning him as one of the top contenders for the title.
However, the season was not without its setbacks. A mid-season crash at Laguna Seca—a track known for both triumph and heartbreak in Herrin’s career—threatened to derail his championship aspirations. Forced to miss one race due to minor injuries, Herrin’s title chances appeared uncertain. But, as he had done many times before, Herrin bounced back with renewed determination. Upon his return at Brainerd, he posted strong results, immediately regaining ground in the championship standings.
The season finale at New Jersey Motorsports Park was nothing short of thrilling. Herrin entered the weekend with a narrow points lead, knowing consistency would be vital to securing the championship. Though he faced stiff competition from Bobby Fong, Cameron Beaubier, Richie Escalante, and others, Herrin remained calm under pressure, finishing on the podium in both races to clinch the 2024 MotoAmerica Superbike Championship. His second Superbike title came over a decade after his first, a testament to his enduring talent, experience, and relentless drive. It also handed Ducati its first US Superbike championship in over 30 years and KYT Americas its first MotoAmerica Superbike Championship.
Off the track, Herrin continued to mentor up-and-coming riders, further solidifying his legacy as a leader within the MotoAmerica paddock. His contributions to the sport extended beyond his on-track achievements, as he actively worked to support and develop the next generation of American road racers. His presence on social media also grew, giving fans a deeper connection to his life as a racer and his love for motorcycles.
